Elon Musk announces the first two mile long Boring Company tunnel is almost complete


The Boring Company will extend its tunneling project into the west side of Los Angeles. They want to tunnel 10 times faster and cheaper than traditional tunneling. Part of the gain is from having narrower tunnels compared to regular subways. Reducing the tunnel diameter by 50% will also reduce the cross-sectional area of the tunnel by a factor of four.

The initial Test Tunnel, located in Hawthorne, CA, is being used for the research and development of The Boring Company's tunneling and public transportation systems.

This Tweet from Elon suggests yesterday suggests plans are moving swiftly. The first track, he stated in a later Tweet that the track would open on the 10th of December.

As well as the test track between Hawthorn and LAX, the Boring Company is working on 3 future civic developments using the transportation system.

Dugout Loop - Los Angeles, CA

The Boring Company is proposing a project in Los Angeles, CA, that would transport baseball fans and concertgoers directly to the Dodger Stadium from the Los Feliz, East Hollywood, or Rampart Village neighborhoods.

The Chicago Express Loop

The Boring Company has been selected by the Chicago Infrastructure Trust (CIT), on behalf of the City of Chicago, to enter into exclusive negotiations to design, build, finance, operate and maintain an O’Hare Express service. The Chicago Express Loop will provide fast and convenient transportation between O’Hare Airport (Terminals 1-3) and Block 37 in downtown Chicago.

East Coast Loop - Washington D.C. to Maryland

The Boring Company is proposing a project on the East Coast from downtown DC to Maryland, beneath New York Avenue and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
